Didn't Alex North try to sell Marlena's apartment back when he was hypnotizing her? I seem to remember him standing on the balcony talking to someone on the phone about buying it. Maybe that is what you were thinking of when you thought someone tried to sell it before.
Just want to say that the person who posted the 1st comment is right. Alex did try to sell the penthouse before him and Marlena left for Morgan Island. As for what happened once they got there, I'm not sure, seeing as how that storyline seemed to just be dropped. So Alex trying to sell the penthouse is probably who you were thinking of.
